Homestead-Miami was fraught with rain and lightning delay, but the team still managed to push through. A pole position, a P2 finish, and the championship lead extended is all we could have hoped for from the race despite trouble.

The lineup

Five drivers shared the #769 over the 12 hours:

  • Preston Powell
  • Chase Anderson
  • Bill Agha
  • Andrew Adleta
  • Timothy Hanrahan

The race

Our first pole position as a team came Friday in a wet weather qualifying, beating out the Lagoonatic Racing car by a whopping 9.730 seconds, driven by Andrew Adleta. The team was ecstatic to finally get our first pole position, with Andrew saying "3 races in and we finally did it. Super happy to be where we are."

Saturday started well, with Andrew Adleta taking the first stint and leading the race. The car began having issues after a spark plug wire was loose, dropping us a lap down early on.

The race continued going well, and a driver switch that was initially planned for the 2 hour mark ended up being delayed after lightning struck near the track. Preston Powell jumped back in the car after the delays ended, and the team continued running P2.

At one point during Preston's stint, the transmission in the car gave out, and we were left with only 4th gear. The team needed to complete half of the leaders laps to be counted for points, and as the rain continued to ramp up, we managed to keep within 5 seconds of our opponents' wet weather pace.

At around the 6 hour mark, the race ended early due to an extended lightning delay, with Powell Racing finishing P2 in class, taking home valuable points as we head into the season Finale at Daytona on Oct. 31st.

Championship standings

After Homestead-Miami, Powell Racing leads the ZR4 Teams Championship with 93 points, 34 clear of second place, with Daytona still to run.
